April Fools 2017

Every year companies come up with April Fool’s ads. Following is a compilation of those I found most funny. My favorite video is #1. If you only watch one, choose this. My favorite product is #2 – I want to own one but I don’t want anyone else to have it. #3 is too complicated for me; it may be geared toward a different generation. I find #s 4 and 5 mildly disgusting, although the ads are funny. Remember, as much as you might like what you see, none of these products are real.

1. Reality Glasses

2. Lane Valet

3. Honda Horn Emojis

4. Pet Fur Watches

5. Whopper Toothpaste

May the farce be with you!

Pam

Googly-Eyed Terminator

Google has entered the robotics industry. They recently purchased Boston Dynamics, designers of research robots for the Pentagon.

When I read this, I felt cold chills because it reminded me of SkyNet from “The Terminator” movies.

SkyNet had access to massive amounts of information. Not just big stuff either, but personal data, too. Like they would know when your birthday was and could send you an unsolicited personalized greeting.

I didn't tell them

I didn’t tell them

SkyNet also had access to robots and they controlled what those robots did.

Real life terminator?

Actual Google-owned Robot

“The Terminator” movies portrayed a future that combined access to massive amounts of data and robots resulting in artificial intelligence that attempted to take over the human race.

I don’t want to say much more because I’m slightly paranoid that if I go too far, an intelligent machine will be sent from the future to shut me down. In fact, I think I need to end this post now. I hear something outside…I’ll try to get a picture.

They're coming!!!!

This is outside my window (it could be!)

If you don’t hear from me next week you’ll know why.

May the farce be with you!

Your IFF,

Pam

Fractured Cliché #21

Fractured Cliché: Preaching to the congregation

Correct Cliché: Preaching to the choir

Fractured Cliché: Rome was built in a day

Correct Cliché: Rome wasn’t built in a day

Today’s Fractured Clichés pay tribute to Easter and highlight two traditions I had never experienced before coming to Chicago.

On Fat Tuesday, Chicago celebrates Pączki Day. A Pączki is a deep fried Polish pastry with a sweet filling. It’s such a big deal that people line up outside bakeries early in the morning to purchase them before they’re sold out. The traditional reason for making them was to use up the lard, sugar, eggs and fruit in the house because Catholics couldn’t eat them during Lent.

The second Chicago tradition is the pepper and egg sandwich. In case you haven’t heard of it, the pepper is green – not black. If you practice dietary restrictions during Lent, it’s a great alternative to fish.

If you celebrate Easter, have a good one. If you don’t, I hope you’ve been eating whatever you want. I tried a Pączki stuffed with pepper and egg.

May the farce be with you!

Your IFF,

Pam
