In Heinz sight, do you see a fruit or a vegetable?

Fractured Cliché #18

On February 2, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow predicting another 6 weeks of winter. The mild weather in Chicago makes the prospect of his prediction bearable but time will tell if he’s right because his accuracy rate is less than 40% – a great lead-in to today’s first Fractured Cliché.

Correct Cliché: Hindsight is 20/20

Fractured Cliché: Eyesight is 20/20

Obviously, Punxsutawney Phil’s eyesight isn’t 20/20 as proven by our 20/20 hindsight.

In spite of his poor track record, Phil is held in very high esteem which is apropos to the next Fractured Cliché.

Correct Cliché:  Delusions of grandeur

Fractured Cliché:  Dilutions of grandeur

Punxsutawney Phil has gotten a bad rap. He doesn’t actually make the prediction – the whole affair is rigged. Phil’s prediction is determined ahead of time by the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club’s powerful, underground inner circle. The Club’s own delusions result in poor Phil’s dilutions.

I think The Club should give Phil some latitude and let him make the predictions on his own. Remember Paul the psychic Octopus who accurately predicted all of Germany’s World Cup results? If given a chance, there’s no reason Phil can’t do the same with the weather.

May the farce be with you!

Your IFF,

Stephen saw his shadow on Ground Frhog Day
